Job Summary
The Accountant II will support the Council’s financial management by preparing budgets, monitoring financial performance, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will also supervise finance staff and contribute to sound financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and cost analyses.
- Analyse revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budgetary controls.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies promptly and accurately.
- Supervise the input, processing, and management of financial data and reports.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, management reports, and reports for Council meetings.
- Manage and account for the Council’s examination funds in accordance with approved financial procedures.
- Liaise with Internal and External Auditors during financial audits and implement audit recommendations where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations, and internal control procedures.
- Supervise and provide guidance to Accounts staff within the assigned office.
- Serve as a statutory member of Management Committee meetings where required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance Division.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of Second Class Lower Division) in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a related field.
- Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) or the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant post-qualification work experience in a reputable organization.
- Sound knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, accounting principles, and internal controls.
- Experience with accounting software and financial management systems will be an advantage.
General Requirements
Applicants should:
- Possess five (5) credits in WASSCE/GCE Ordinary Level, including English Language and Mathematics in one sitting, or six (6) credits in not more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics.
- Be not more than forty (40) years of age as of the application closing date.
- Demonstrate high integrity, confidentiality, and reliability.
- Be self-motivated with strong report-writing skills.
- Be willing to work beyond normal working hours with minimal supervision when required.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Be open to change and capable of implementing innovative ideas.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and web-based systems.
