Position Summary
As an Experienced Theatre Nurse, you will provide specialised nursing support throughout surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile environments, and working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals. You will play a key role in preparing patients, managing surgical equipment, and supporting excellent clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Provide professional nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Prepare the operating theatre, surgical instruments, and equipment according to established protocols.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection prevention and control standards.
- Assist surgeons and the wider theatre team during surgical procedures.
- Ensure the availability, preparation, and safe handling of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Monitor patients’ conditions and respond promptly to changes during procedures.
- Support safe patient transfers, positioning, and preparation for surgery.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and complete required theatre records.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, hospital policies, and professional nursing guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining high standards of theatre care.
- Support the orientation and guidance of junior theatre nursing staff when required.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A Registered General Nursing qualification with a valid Professional Identification Number (PIN) issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ post-qualification experience working in a theatre or surgical setting.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and patient safety practices.
- Additional training or experience in theatre nursing will be an added advantage.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention and clinical safety standards.
- Commitment to providing compassionate and professional patient care.
