We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and results-driven Accountant to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and effective financial reporting while supporting the company’s strategic objectives.

Position Summary

The Accountant will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, statutory compliance, financial analysis, and accounting operations. The role requires a highly organized professional with strong analytical skills, sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and the ability to provide accurate financial information to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Regular Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of financial management policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for receipts, payments, and financial transactions.
  • Manage and maintain:
    • General Ledger
    • Subsidiary Ledgers
    • Accounts Receivable
    • Revenue Distribution
    • Fixed Asset Register and Depreciation
    • Cost Accounting Records
    • Property Records
    • Operating Expense Records
  • Prepare financial forecasts, cost estimates, and revenue projections.
  • Analyze financial performance and present reports to management.
  • Monitor financial transactions to ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Periodic Responsibilities

  • Prepare periodic financial forecasts and budget reports.
  • Coordinate external audit activities and prepare all required audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Support statutory financial reporting requirements.
  • Review financial statements with management and recommend improvements.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining accounting systems, inventory controls, and financial procedures.
  • Strengthen financial controls and improve accounting processes.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving the following performance targets:

Payroll Administration

  • Ensure salaries are processed and paid on or before the last working day of every month.

Financial Reporting

  • Submit accurate weekly financial reports.
  • Prepare and submit month-end financial reports on schedule.
  • Produce quarterly Board reports within agreed timelines.

Loan Portfolio Management

  • Monitor the company’s loan portfolio.
  • Source project financing when required.
  • Minimize financing costs by effectively managing loan exposure.

Receivables Management

  • Ensure timely follow-up and collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Improve debtor recovery performance through proactive engagement.

Budget Management

  • Monitor budget performance against actual expenditure.
  • Identify and report budget variances with appropriate recommendations.

Staff Financial Administration

Manage financial matters relating to:

  • Staff welfare
  • Staff cooperative activities
  • Commissions
  • Dividends
  • Employee allowances

Subsidiary Accounting

  • Ensure all inter-company transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Perform quarterly inter-company reconciliations.

Statutory Compliance

Ensure timely and accurate remittance of all statutory obligations, including:

  • PAYE
  • Pension Contributions
  • VAT
  • Other statutory taxes and regulatory payments

Business Performance

  • Support the achievement of the company’s allocated quarterly gross profit targets through effective financial management and cost control.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc.) in Accounting or a related discipline.

Professional Qualification

  • Professional accounting qualification such as ICA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent recognized certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant accounting and finance experience.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proficiency in Sage Evolution Accounting Software.
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing business needs.
