Ghana continues to make important socioeconomic progress, yet many children still face multidimensional poverty, unequal access to services, and vulnerabilities linked to climate change, health risks, and regional security challenges. UNICEF responds through strategic programming aligned with national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Partnership Framework.
UNICEF Ghana focuses on key results for children, including immunization, nutrition, learning outcomes, ending child marriage, ending open defecation, and strengthening child protection systems. The organization applies key strategies such as social protection and public financing for children, advocacy and partnerships, social and behavior change, and innovation and knowledge management.
Position Summary
UNICEF Ghana is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Advocacy Specialist to lead and support advocacy initiatives that advance children’s rights and influence policy, public awareness, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will design and implement advocacy strategies, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to impactful campaigns that improve outcomes for children across Ghana.
The role requires strong analytical ability, communication expertise, and a deep commitment to social justice, child rights, and sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement evidence-based advocacy strategies aligned with UNICEF priorities.
- Design and execute advocacy campaigns on child rights, social protection, education, health, and protection.
- Analyze research, data, and policy trends to inform advocacy messaging and programming.
- Prepare high-quality advocacy briefs, reports, talking points, and communication materials.
- Engage government institutions, civil society, media, and development partners to influence policy change.
- Support stakeholder mapping, coalition building, and partnership engagement.
- Strengthen digital advocacy efforts using social media and online platforms.
- Contribute to youth engagement and community outreach initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate advocacy impact and campaign effectiveness.
- Ensure alignment of advocacy efforts with UNICEF global and regional priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in advocacy, communication, journalism, public relations, or campaign work at national or international level.
- Experience in humanitarian, development, or child-focused programming is an advantage.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required.

- Experience in campaign planning and stakeholder engagement.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
