Position Overview
GIMPA is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Database Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize the institution’s database systems and infrastructure.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring database performance, security, availability, and reliability while supporting institutional operations and digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Database Administrator will:
- Install, configure, and upgrade database management systems (DBMS) including MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, and related platforms
- Monitor database performance and implement enhancements, patches, and system updates
- Optimize database queries, indexing, and stored procedures to improve efficiency and performance
- Develop, test, and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues to ensure high system availability
- Maintain database security, integrity, and operational reliability
- Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and performance reports
- Collaborate with technical teams to support application development and system integration
- Ensure adherence to database management best practices and institutional standards
- Stay current with emerging database technologies and industry trends through continuous learning
Qualification & Experience Requirements
Education
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, or a related discipline
Experience & Technical Skills
- Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in database administration or related roles
- Proficiency in database optimisation, indexing, stored procedures, and Standard Query Language (SQL)
- Practical knowledge of database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and related systems
- Professional certification in any recognised database platform will be an added advantage
