Position Overview
GIMPA is seeking a proactive and customer-focused IT Support Specialist to provide technical support and maintain the institution’s IT systems and end-user computing environment.
The successful candidate will support day-to-day IT operations by troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining hardware and software systems, and ensuring efficient delivery of technology support services across the institution.
Key Responsibilities
The IT Support Specialist will:
- Provide first-level technical support to end-users via phone, email, and in-person interactions
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues efficiently
- Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, peripherals, and software applications
- Maintain accurate records of support requests and resolutions using the IT ticketing system
- Collaborate with other IT team members to resolve complex technical issues
- Perform basic hardware maintenance and repairs within the computing environment
- Support users with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and remote support tools
- Maintain and update troubleshooting guides and technical documentation
- Ensure timely escalation of unresolved technical issues when necessary
- Contribute to continuous improvement of IT support processes and systems
Qualification & Experience Requirements
Education
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, or a related discipline
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Proven knowledge and practical experience in IT support or help desk operations
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and remote support tools
- Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies
- Professional IT certifications such as A+, CCNA, or related certifications will be an added advantage
Experience & Competencies
- Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong technical reporting and documentation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Commitment to continuous learning and systems improvement
