Position Overview

GIMPA is seeking a proactive and customer-focused IT Support Specialist to provide technical support and maintain the institution’s IT systems and end-user computing environment.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day IT operations by troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining hardware and software systems, and ensuring efficient delivery of technology support services across the institution.


Key Responsibilities

The IT Support Specialist will:

  • Provide first-level technical support to end-users via phone, email, and in-person interactions
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues efficiently
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, peripherals, and software applications
  • Maintain accurate records of support requests and resolutions using the IT ticketing system
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to resolve complex technical issues
  • Perform basic hardware maintenance and repairs within the computing environment
  • Support users with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and remote support tools
  • Maintain and update troubleshooting guides and technical documentation
  • Ensure timely escalation of unresolved technical issues when necessary
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of IT support processes and systems

Qualification & Experience Requirements

Education

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, or a related discipline

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven knowledge and practical experience in IT support or help desk operations
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and remote support tools
  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies
  • Professional IT certifications such as A+, CCNA, or related certifications will be an added advantage

Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical reporting and documentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Commitment to continuous learning and systems improvement
