Position Summary
The English Teacher will deliver engaging and high-quality English Language and Literature lessons that inspire students to become confident readers, writers, critical thinkers, and effective communicators. The successful candidate will create an inclusive learning environment, assess student progress, and contribute to the overall academic success of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English Language and Literature lessons in line with the school’s curriculum.
- Create an inclusive, stimulating, and learner-centred classroom environment.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Promote reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills.
- Integrate educational technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning.
Assessment and Student Progress
- Develop and administer assignments, quizzes, tests, and examinations.
- Assess and monitor student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate academic records and prepare student progress reports.
- Identify learners who require additional academic support and implement appropriate interventions.
Classroom Management
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and disciplined classroom environment.
- Encourage student participation, collaboration, and independent learning.
- Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and academic excellence.
Curriculum and Professional Development
- Participate in curriculum planning, review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Attend departmental meetings, staff meetings, and professional development programmes.
- Stay up to date with current teaching practices and developments in English education.
Parent and School Engagement
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and development.
- Participate actively in school events, extracurricular activities, and academic programmes.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement and the school’s educational objectives.
- Perform other teaching and administrative duties as assigned by school management.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Education, Linguistics, Literature, Education, or a related discipline.
- A recognised teaching qualification or professional teacher certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in English Language and/or Literature.
- Experience teaching an international curriculum will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of English Language, Literature, and effective teaching methodologies.
- Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Strong lesson planning, curriculum delivery, and assessment skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to inspire a love for reading, writing, and effective communication.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and educational technology tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary academic team.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to safeguarding children.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
