Position Summary

The Science Teacher will plan and deliver engaging science lessons that promote inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking. The successful candidate will create an interactive learning environment, assess student progress, and contribute to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Science lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum.
  • Create an inclusive, stimulating, and learner-centred classroom environment.
  • Deliver practical laboratory activities and demonstrations that enhance scientific understanding.
  • Encourage scientific inquiry, critical thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Integrate educational technology and innovative teaching methods to enrich student learning.
  • Promote safe laboratory practices and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.

Assessment and Student Progress

  • Develop and administer assignments, quizzes, tests, practical assessments, and examinations.
  • Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Monitor student progress and implement appropriate interventions for learners requiring additional support.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and prepare student progress reports.

Classroom and Laboratory Management

  • Maintain a safe, organised, and well-equipped classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment and materials are properly maintained and used responsibly.
  • Foster positive behaviour, collaboration, and active participation in classroom and laboratory activities.

Curriculum and Professional Development

  • Participate in curriculum planning, review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Attend departmental meetings, staff meetings, and professional development programmes.
  • Stay informed about current developments in science education and effective teaching practices.

Parent and School Engagement

  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and academic development.
  • Participate actively in school events, science fairs, clubs, excursions, and extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement and the school’s educational objectives.
  • Perform other teaching and administrative duties as assigned by school management.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science, Education, or a related discipline.
  • A recognised teaching qualification or professional teacher certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in Science at the basic or secondary school level.
  • Experience teaching an international curriculum will be an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of scientific concepts and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent classroom and laboratory management skills.
  • Strong lesson planning, curriculum delivery, and assessment abilities.

  • Ability to inspire curiosity, creativity, and scientific inquiry.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and educational technology tools.
  • Ability to conduct and supervise practical laboratory activities safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary academic team.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to safeguarding children.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and educational excellence.
